Cameos of Caring

Akron General Medical Center and Edwin Shaw Rehab honored three nurses at The University of Akron’s sixth annual Cameos of Caring Gala. The recipients of the Cameos of Caring awards were: Sharon Brodie, RN, Edwin Shaw Rehab; Linda Jacobs, RN, Akron General; and Melissa O’Brien, RN, Akron General. The award is presented to extraordinary bedside nurses from Akron and Canton-area hospitals.

Most Wired again
Akron General Medical Center was named as one of the nation’s Most Wired Hospitals for the second year in a row, according to the results of the 2007 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.

Best Employer designation
For the fifth consecutive year, Akron General Medical Center was designated one of the 99 Best Employers in Northeast Ohio, as designated by The Employers Resource Council. This prestigious designation recognizes organizations that have implemented programs to attract, retain and create a high level of employee satisfaction.

AHA Performance Achievement Award
Akron General Medical Center again received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines – Coronary Artery Disease Annual Performance achievement award. The award recognizes Akron General’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that effectively improves treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease.


HomeCare Elite listing

For two years straight, Hospice & Palliative Care of Visiting Nurse Service was named to the HomeCare Elite listing, an annual compilation of the most successful home care providers in the country. This distinctive review names the Medicare-certified agencies whose performance measures in quality, improvement and financial performance are among the top 25% of providers nationwide.

Consumer Choice Award
Akron General Medical Center was the Akron area’s only winner of the 2007 Consumer Choice Award given by the National Research Corporation (NRC). Akron General received this honor based on responses from area residents who were asked questions regarding healthcare in the community. These questions probed consumers’ thoughts on the best hospital in the area for doctors, nurses, overall quality, and image and reputation.

AHA Gold-level status
Akron General received gold-level recognition as part of the American Heart Association’s Start! Fit-Friendly Program. This status recognizes Akron General as an organization that champions the health of its employees and works to create a culture of physical activity in the workplace.
