The Night Cafeteria Cook is a part time position and works independently. Written production assignments, job outlines, instructions are given with follow-up guidance and monitoring at shift-end by supervisor. The position must adhere to all approved procedures, policies and techniques used in the department to provide timely, quality food and service. The position is responsible for food preparation, serving, food/work area set-ups, proper food handling, sanitation of work area/equipment and cash handling (including cash register operation).
Prepares and cooks food according to recipes and techniques for Medical Center, patients, visitors, employees and special events. Utilizes appropriate equipment and resources in achieving a timely and quality product/services.
Timely service of food occurs. Utilizes proper serving technique for portioning, sanitation, guest relations. Sets up service, production, dining and catering area with required items.
Runs cash register and follows cashier rules and standards to ensure financial accountability. Completes required cash reports. Accuracy of cash handling is closely monitored by supervisor.
Utilizes proper sanitary practices in regards to hygiene, food storage and food preparation. Cleans equipment, carts and work area. Returns dirty pots to pot room. Scrapes dirty dishes.
Uses own judgment when not given specific or adequate instructions. While on the job, is responsible for keeping doors and coolers locked.
Performs all other duties necessary for night food service and communicated job tasks including other similar or less skilled work.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or the equivalent.
Previous experience in institutional cooking and/or one year's experience in Food Service; a working knowledge of quantity cooking.
Thorough working knowledge of kitchen equipment supplies and base cooking materials; ability to use some initiative and judgment in execution of assignments; the ability to cook a variety of foods; a working knowledge of cooking times.
Willingness and ability to work rapidly in order to meet schedules; ability for judgment and to make estimated food costs and follow standard recipes and adjust portions as needed; ability to evaluate food and food products during testing stages.
Willingness to work in areas of high degree heat and the possibility of burns and cuts from utensils and assorted objects; a willingness to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers other personnel and visitors.
Ability to read and write and follow written and oral instructions; knowledge of basic mathematics; ability to make change from a cash register; ability to operate a cash register.
