The Systems Administrator AGHS is responsible for installation, implementation and maintenance of network operating system software and hardware for Akron General's client/server environment.Performs system administration procedures and provides technical assistance to department administrators and IS staff for client/server systems.
Interfaces with various user areas to define user needs. Creates and implements program specifications. Maintains communication with user areas and knowledge of area work flow processes. Ensures user satisfaction at project completion.
Evaluates and recommends user hardware and software requirements.
Assists in development of network operating procedures that ensure efficient implementation and use of all network resources. Documents processes and procedures.
Installs new software releases, upgrades and patches. Resolves software related problems. Performs system backups and recovery.
Provides diagnostic support for all client/server systems. Maintains operating system platforms at appropriate release levels. Maintains maximum performance level and service availability for client/server systems and their components.
Maintains and monitors anti-virus software on client/server systems to ensure virus free environment. Monitors and tracks system security and required passwords.
Collaborates with the vendors on installs, maintenance, migrations and upgrades. Oversees vendor work with regard to resolving technical issues, managing deadlines and meeting cost estimates.
Maintains server hardware including installation and upgrades. Monitors server logs, analyzes and corrects system errors to maintain and enhance system performance.
Coordinates multiple areas and phases of projects. May assist with training hospital personnel on assigned systems.
Keeps current on new technology and alternatives and relates this information to management, project leaders, and user areas.
May support systems at satellite facilities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or business related field or the equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education. Three years system administration/technical support experience. Knowledge of client/server administration and hardware. Understanding of required systems and network interfaces within assigned areas. Knowledge of health care/information systems preferred. Experience with PC Enterprise and mainframe applications within assigned areas. Ability to effectively communicate with management staff and vendors. Ability to participate in after hours support rotation.
