Full time, 2nd shift opening at Akron General Medical Center. Responsible for conducting routine and complex biological procedures and accurately documenting some test results. Reports to Lab Supervisor.
· Demonstrates the knowledge of applicable Clinical Laboratory Medicine in order to produce required measure of accuracy.· Receives and process various biological specimens in accordance with established procedures.· Performs routine and some complex biological procedures using standard and sophisticated instrumentation and equipment in accordance with established procedures.· Aids in proper reagent and chemical solution preparation, labeling and storage.· Evaluates validity of test results using quality control standards, instrumentation function checks, and/or department policies and procedures. Brings problems to attention of supervisor or senior medical technologist.· Evaluates and records test results in timely and accurate manner.· Initiates appropriate corrective action to alleviate any deficiencies of quality assurance standards or established specified limits.· Consistently coordinates all work with co-workers to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift. Strives to be an effective and productive member of the institution.· Performs and documents preventive maintenance measures on department's equipment and instruments.· Provides general training to laboratory assistants, medical technology students and others under training.· Always shows an awareness of proper safety procedures.· Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of computer functions.· Assumes personal responsibility for on-going continuing education and professional development.· Provides instruction and explanation to patients and/or family member when performing point-of-care testing procedures (i.e. Activated Clotting Time, Template Bleeding Time).· Completes all mandatory in-service programs required within state time frame.
Qualifications: ·Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in a chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution. Current ASCP certification or registry eligible. Within one year of hire, secures and maintains ASCP certification. Written and verbal communication skills. On-going education: Must complete and document two hours of continuing medical education annually.
