Registration Specialist-Emergency Department - AGP
Full-time, 2nd shift available.
Semi full-time, 3rd shift available.
Under the direct supervision of the Director, the Registration Specialist is responsible for greeting and directing patients, ensuring accurate and timely registration, collecting payments, processing referrals as well as obtaining pertinent demographic and financial information.
Greets patients as they enter the Emergency Department
Checks in patients, verifies and updates registration information in the practice management system in accordance with policy.
Maintains acceptable error rate of registration and charge entry processing.
Collects co-pays and accurately enters these in the computer daily.
Posts and balances charges and payments daily.
Answers telephone promptly and courteously; takes messages accurately and provides information as needed.
Completes precertifications in a timely manner as needed. Records payor information in the practice management system in accordance with policy.
Works with physicians and clinical staff, coding coordinators and billing department to resolve patient inquiries and billing and/or coding questions.
Identifies the worker comp patient and alerts nursing staff as to need for drug screen/breath alcohol testing.
Follows system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or the equivalent. Knowledge of medical terminology. Effective skills with multi-line telephone systems. Two years work experience with registration charge posting in a medical office setting or completion of a medical assistant program. Competent with computer software including practice management systems and windows applications.
