Prevention and early detection has never tasted so good Nationally, five out of every 1,000 women who receive a screening mammogram will have a breast cancer diagnosis. Due to lack of resources, often health insurance and income, women will hold off scheduling their annual screening mammogram. Living our mission as a health system means finding ways for our community to access these much needed services.
Since 1992, Akron General has partnered with Main Street Gourmet for Muffins for Mammograms to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars so we can provide screening mammograms at no cost to the uninsured or underinsured. Each October, during national breast cancer awareness month, our bake sale raises money to cover the cost of mammograms. Each order of muffins comes with breast health education and a heart-felt thank you from the thousands of Akron-area women who’ve been able to receive this life-saving screening.
We are proud to partner with Main Street Gourmet and long-time community sponsor, WQMX 94.9FM. Annually, the proceeds from the Bosom Buddies contribute to this expansive community effort. The program would not be so successful without their support and passion for awareness within the local community.
