Dr. Paranjape is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He specializes in advanced laparoscopy, endoscopy, general surgery, trauma and surgical critical care.
After receiving his medical degree from B.J. Medical College, in Pune, India, Dr. Paranjape completed his further surgical training in India and Japan. He subsequently came to the United States and completed residency training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and Akron General Medical Center, followed by a fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Since his return to Akron General Medical Center in 2008, Dr. Paranjape has been an active member of the medical staff, serving as the Director of Acute Care Surgery Service; Director of the Heartburn Center; and Associate Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, he is one of the few surgeons in the world to perform removal of the total colon through laparoscopic single incision surgery, and was one of the first surgeons in Ohio to perform single incision laparoscopic surgery to remove the gallbladder. He has continually championed the benefits of minimally invasive surgical procedures, and recently partnered with Olympus to teach single incision surgery to other surgeons across the nation, making Akron General one of only six teaching facilities in the United States.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Paranjape serves on the National Committee on Acute Care Surgery. Locally, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Northeast Ohio Medical University and as a committee member at the Austen BioInnovation Institute. In an effort to give back to the Akron area community, he also volunteers his services at the Akron Community Health Resource Clinic.
Richard M. Salvino, MD Dr. Salvino is a Board Certified gastroenterologist with a practice that focuses on general gastroenterology and hepatology.
Dr. Salvino earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-professional Studies from the University of Notre Dame, graduating Cum laude. He earned a medical degree from the Toledo College of Medicine and went on to complete an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Akron General Medical Center, followed by a clinical nutrition fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. During this time he presented research at a national level. Dr. Salvino then completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Dr. Salvino is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.
William C. Papouras, MD, FACS
Dr. Papouras is a Board Certified general surgeon with a practice that focuses on general surgery, endoscopy, minimally invasive surgery and trauma.
Dr. Papouras graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Wittenberg University. He then attended and graduated from the Medical College of Ohio and completed his surgical residency at Akron General Medical Center. He received his Board Certification from the American Board of Surgery and has been granted Fellow status in the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Papouras has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy and Director of Surgery Clerkship at Akron General Medical Center.
