Sleep Center

The National Institutes of Health Center for Sleep Disorders Research estimates that more than 70 million Americans suffer from disorders of sleep and wakefulness, adding 15.9 billion dollars to the national health care bill. One in three people suffer from a sleep problem, many times without even realizing it.

Akron General Sleep Centers treat the following sleep disorders:

  • Sleep Apnea
  • Chronic Insomnia
  • Work-Shift Change Syndrome
  • Sleepwalking
  • Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)
  • Narcolepsy
  • Nocturnal Seizures
  • Periodic Limb Movement Disorder

Our outpatient sleep center evaluates patients with sleep problems and determines the type of problem and whether or not an overnight sleep study is needed.

We work closely with your physician to evaluate your sleep problem and keep your physician fully informed of our findings.

Overnight Studies

Overnight studies, when necessary, are performed in one of our private bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own television, private telephone and internet connection.

Each bedroom has a private restroom and your sleep monitoring equipment can be easily taken into the restroom.

If you are scheduled for a sleep study, you will be given a tour of the facility of your choice and an explanation of the tests before your appointment.

What You Can Expect

  • While you sleep, our certified technologists and nurses monitor your sleep patterns in a separate room.
  • In the morning, you are provided with a nutritious breakfast.
  • Your study is evaluated by one of our medical sleep specialists.

Our three accredited centers are in convenient locations and accessible to people with disabilities.

    Convenient Home Testing
Medicare beneficiaries now qualify for unattended home sleep apnea evaluations.

Akron General Sleep Centers are one of the first in the area to offer unattended sleep apnea diagnostic testing to patients in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Key risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) include loud and frequent snoring, daytime sleepiness and obesity. Most adults who have OSA have not yet been diagnosed.

If you think that you or someone in your family may have a nocturnal breathing disorder and would like to determine if in-home testing may be right for you, talk to your doctor, who could refer you to Akron General Sleep Centers for an evaluation by calling 330-344-6751.

    About Insurance Coverage
Many tests are covered by medical insurance. Ask your insurance company for details on your plan or call Akron General's Outpatient Registration Department at 330.344.7727.
