Overview

Overview

Sleep is an important, restorative process that is critical to your overall general health and wellness. Considering that we spend about one-third of our lives sleeping, the quality of our sleep plays a significant role in our lives.

Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, snoring and daytime sleepiness are not normal and could represent a potentially life-threatening problem. If you're experiencing these issues, then you've probably also noticed how these symptoms are interfering with your daily life and your ability to perform at your best level; however, you may not know that Cleveland Clinic Akron General Sleep Centers offer solutions.

If you're ready to take the first step, talk to your physician about your symptoms and sleep issues. He or she can help determine whether you should see an Akron General sleep specialist.

Akron General Sleep Centers are the areas longest established sleep centers and offer the highest degree of quality and expertise. Since 1987, we have been dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, helping thousands of patients sleep better.

Accreditation

Our centers are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, meaning that each facility adheres to the highest standards of care for sleep disorder patients.

The National Institutes of Health Center for Sleep Disorders Research estimates that more than 70 million Americans suffer from disorders of sleep and wakefulness, adding 15.9 billion dollars to the national health care bill. One in three people suffer from a sleep problem, many times without even realizing it.

Akron General Sleep Centers treat the following sleep disorders:

Evaluations

We work closely with your physician to evaluate your sleep problem and keep your physician fully informed of our findings.

Overnight studies

Overnight studies, when necessary, are performed in one of our private bedrooms. Each bedroom has a telephone and internet connection.

What you can expect

  • While you sleep, our certified technologists and nurses monitor your sleep patterns in a separate room.
  • Your study is evaluated by one of our medical sleep specialists.
  • Our three accredited centers are in convenient locations and accessible to people with disabilities.

Convenient home testing

Medicare beneficiaries now qualify for unattended home sleep apnea evaluations.

Akron General Sleep Centers are one of the first in the area to offer unattended sleep apnea diagnostic testing to patients in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Key risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) include loud and frequent snoring, daytime sleepiness and obesity. Most adults who have OSA have not yet been diagnosed.

If you think that you or someone in your family may have a nocturnal breathing disorder and would like to determine if in-home testing may be right for you, talk to your doctor, who could refer you to Akron General Sleep Centers for an evaluation by calling 330.344.6751.
