Athletic Training Services

We specialize in the treatment of athletes of all ages, levels and sports: recreational or collegiate, weekend jogger or softball player, dancer or karate student. We understand that the rehabilitation of orthopaedic injuries is only part of the recovery process - we know the special concerns of athletes and the importance of addressing the emotional and mental aspects of recovery as well as the injury itself.

Our rehab specialists are skilled in treating sports-related injuries, such as sprains, strains, contusions and fractures. Strengthening, range of motion and proprioceptive control are stressed for patients who have and have not had surgery.

High School Coverage:
On-Site Sports Medicine Coverage
Our physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists can provide on-site medical coverage year-round at high school and community athletic events. We can also provide fitness instructors and therapists for the worksite.

Pre-Season Physicals
Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (OHSAA Format)
We offer pre-season physical screenings for high school athletes every spring and fall. Education:
We believe that education is a vital aspect of improving student athletes' health and performance. That's why we provide numerous seminars for both student athletes and their parents. We also sponsor a student Sports Medicine club for those interested in athletic training or sports medicine as a career.

Injury Prevention:
Even with the most rigorous training, most sports have inherent dangers that put young athletes at risk for injury. Also, now more than ever, adults are participating in recreational sports. As the body ages, we tend to lose agility and the level of activity we once had, putting us at a greater risk for injury. That's why Akron General Sports Medicine offers prevention education for local groups and teams for all ages. Prevention programs can be tailored by sport or activity.
