Infection Control

The department works closely with local health departments and the Ohio Department of Health to report and control the spread of contagious diseases, such as influenza and meningitis. Isolation precautions are instituted in the hospital to prevent the spread of contagious diseases to other patients, staff or visitors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Close surveillance for hospital-acquired infections
  • Identification and implementation of practices to reduce the risk of infection
  • Education of staff regarding infection-control issues
  • Working closely with the Patient Education Committee to develop educational materials on various infectious disease or infection control topics, such as influenza and hepatitis care at home
  • Working with the Patient Safety Committee to provide a safe environment for our patients and visitors
