The department works closely with
local health departments and the Ohio Department
of Health to report and control the spread of contagious
diseases, such as influenza and meningitis. Isolation
precautions are instituted in the hospital to prevent
the spread of contagious diseases to other patients,
staff or visitors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Close surveillance
for hospital-acquired infections
- Identification and
implementation of practices to reduce the risk
of infection
- Education of staff
regarding infection-control issues
- Working closely
with the Patient Education Committee to develop
educational materials on various infectious
disease or infection control topics, such as
influenza and hepatitis care at home
- Working with the
Patient Safety Committee to provide a safe environment
for our patients and visitors
