U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Akron General as the tenth best hospital in Ohio. Akron General ranked 31st nationally in pulmonology and ranked as "high performing" in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, nephrology and urology.

The American Nurses Association bestowed the prestigious "Magnet" status on the more than 1,000 nurses from Akron General. ANCC, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, grants Magnet status when a healthcare organization reflects nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care. Fewer than 400 of the country's 6,000-plus hospitals have earned this prestigious honor.

Accreditations

A Level I Trauma Center, as designated by the American College of Surgeons(ACS), Akron General offers the technology, expertise and staffing to treat all injuries regardless of severity. Operating rooms, diagnostic services and trauma specialists are on-call 24 hours a day.

Akron General earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for stroke care. The JointCommission, a prestigious national hospital accrediting organization, also awarded a Primary Stroke Center Certification.

Akron General is Summit County’s first accredited Chest Pain Center, a designation granted by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers.

Future

Akron General is developing a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department at its medical center in downtown Akron. In partnership with Select Medical, Cleveland Clinic is building a new Edwin Shaw inpatient rehab facility in Bath next to its Health & Wellness Center.

In addition, Akron General is implementing an electronic medical record system that is used in every Cleveland Clinic facility and physician’s office. This will enhance quality, patient satisfaction and contribute to efforts to reduce the overall cost of care. Physicians and caregivers will soon be using the integrated system to manage patients’ care by accessing a complete electronic medical record that contains all of a patient’s information, whether it was generated in Akron, at an outpatient clinician’s office or at another Cleveland Clinic facility.

Joint Commission

Akron General is accredited by The Joint Commission. Its standards are regarded as the most rigorous in the industry. The public may contact The Joint Commission for unresolved patient safety or quality care concerns at:
