Akron General’s Financial Assistance Program Akron General’s Financial Assistance Program serves patients who are uninsured for services provided at Akron General Medical Center, Lodi Community Hospital, Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation and their associated hospital outpatient facilities. This policy covers hospital services only.
Discounts are provided on hospital bills for patients who do not have health insurance and who meet certain eligibility criteria. The amount of the discount is determined after a review of the patient’s or family’s financial need and is based on current Federal Poverty Guidelines (see chart below).
For qualifying patients, we can establish interest-free payment plans extending up to three years for discounted account balances. Patients may apply for financial assistance at any time before, during or up to two years after their care.
Ohio Hospital Care Assurance Program (HCAP) We participate in the Ohio Hospital Care Assurance Program (HCAP) to provide basic, medically necessary hospital services free of charge to qualifying patients.
Patients must complete an application, apply and have their eligibility approved to receive free care under the HCAP program.
To qualify, you must be at or below (0 – 100 percent of) the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG). You must submit an application within three years of receiving a statement from us for the specific services. Additional qualifications include:
You must be an Ohio resident at the time of service
You were not an active Medicaid recipient at the time of service
A Patient Financial Services representative will contact you once a decision has been made on your eligibility for the HCAP program. You are responsible for providing the information needed for the application process, and you will continue to receive statements until eligibility has been determined.
Please note that if your income is more than the amounts shown and you DO NOT have health insurance, please call our offices and ask about the CARE program.
Financial Review Services If your insurance plan is not accepted at Akron General, or if you do not have insurance, a financial counselor will meet with you prior to scheduling your appointment. They can:
