Our four-year program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and provides qualifications for examination by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We offer four PGY-1 positions.
The first year includes six months of OB-GYN, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology, ICU, Emergency Medicine Special Care Nursery and OB Ultrasound.
The second, third and fourth years include six-month periods in Obstetrics and six-month periods in Gynecology, which includes rotations in Practice Management, Research, Geriatrics, Pathology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Oncology, Urogynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology. Elective time is also available in the third year.
Our teaching faculty includes three subspecialists in Gynecologic Oncology, four subspecialists in Maternal Fetal Medicine, four subspecialists in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, two subspecialists in Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and one urologist who specializes in female urogynecology and over 50 additional board-certified, community based OB-GYNs.
First-year residents, supervised by an attending or senior resident, perform conization, D&C, hysteroscopy, diagnostic laparoscopy, marsupialization and laser therapy of vulvar and cervical lesions.
Second-year residents perform hysterectomies and most major gynecological operations including operative laparoscopy and video-laser laparoscopy with faculty assistance.
Third-year residents are given technical responsibility for major procedures and perform abdominal, pelviscopic and vaginal surgery including urogynecologic and oncologic procedures.
Fourth-year residents perform complicated abdominal operations and vaginal and radical hysterectomies, reductive tumor surgery, radical vulvectomies and exenterations, with gynecologic oncologist assistance.
Residents each perform more than 1,000 ultrasound examinations during their four years. We place special emphasis on High-Risk Obstetrics, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. We encourage individual research and resident involvement in student teaching. We also provide protected conference time and financial subsidies for seminar travel.
Our residents had the opportunity to assist in the delivery of Ohio's first sextuplets. Thirty-four medical professionals participated on the team that delivered all six babies were delivered within one minute.
