Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program

The Orthopaedic Surgical Residency Program at Akron General Medical Center is designed to provide five years of training in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery so that upon its completion, the graduating resident is a superbly well trained orthopaedic surgeon capable of general orthopaedic surgery in a clinical practice or particiption in any of the orthopaedic specialties, or completion of fellowship training and participation in an academic or teaching environment.

We recruit bright, enthusiatic senior students who have demonstrated a history of academic achievement, work ethic, volunteerism and a strong moral character.

Application Requirements

Residency applications and the additional items below must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Application Deadline: 10/16/2010
Interview Dates: Wednesdays starting 11/17/10- 01/26/11

Expected Program Length: 5 years

Application consists of:
• Medical School Academic Transcript
• MSPE Letter
• Minimum USMLE (Step I and Step II) Scores of 75 or higher
• Three letters of recommendation (from orthopaedic surgery and general surgery faculty only)
• Personal statement

Interviews are by invitation only. The invitations are sent via email in mid to late October. If you have been selected, we will contact you using the information you have provided through ERAS.

FAQS

Do you accept more than three letters of recommendation? We accept as many as you wish to submit through ERAS. We review all of the information submitted with the application.

My school does not release MSPE letters until November 3. Will this affect my application being considered? The October 16 deadline is for all application materials except for the MSPE letter. Otherwise only complete applications will be considered ( three letters of recommendation, transcripts, USMLE scores, personal statement, ERAS CV) as of the deadline (10/16/09).

Lodging- Akron General pays for the hotel room the evening before the interview day. The hotel also provides a shuttle that will bring you over to the hospital that morning at about 6:45am. You will be met by the Coordinator and brought to morning conference which starts at 7am. The interview day consists of a tour of Akron General Medical Center, Childrens Hospital Medical Center of Akron (almost across the street), the local area and interviews with faculty, the Chairman and Program Director. Lunch will be provided. The interview day usually ends around 4pm. We do not schedule an evening program.
