What Our Residents & Graduates Say...
"I firmly believe this residency program is the one to which all others must be compared for prospective applicants into orthopedic surgery. It is built on a solid foundation of resident training and education as top priorities. The breadth of expertise of our faculty covers all specialties, and being in such close proximity and cooperation with Akron Children’s Hospital provides a comprehensive education that is unparalleled. Residents have full support for research in clinical and basic science applications, and have the benefits of both Akron General’s Calhoun Research Laboratory as well as collaboration with Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine."
The atmosphere of the program is noteworthy as well. There is a mutual pride and respect amongst the faculty and residents that makes being a part of this residency so enjoyable. Camaraderie both inside and outside of work is certainly a driver of this program’s achievements—being a part of it is a great experience."

Orthopaedic Surgery
Amy Tucker, MD (Ortho Class of 2005) did not grow up in Northeastern Ohio nor does she have family here. But when she was looking for a residency program, she knew she definitely wanted to come to Akron. "Akron General was my absolute first choice for residency," shares the Kentucky native. "And it proved to be the perfect fit for me. It's just the right size so that patients get care with a personal touch and also have access to cutting-edge technology, research, resources and excellent medical care."
Dr. Tucker chose to practice medicine because she always knew she wanted to make a difference. "Orthopaedics is a very rewarding specialty for both the patient and the physician, as results are almost immediate," she explains. It's not only the specialty but also the place that she finds so gratifying. "Akron General really feels like a second home."
Dr. Tucker attended the University of Louisville and completed her orthopaedic residency at Akron General Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. She is a member of Akron General Partners Physician Group and Medical Director of the Akron General Wound Center.
