Since its inception, the Foundation has raised in excess of $85 Million. Last year alone, the Foundation provided over $3.4 million to Akron General for capital purchases, new equipment, facility improvements, medical education.
Designated funds were established to support a variety of programs and services at Akron General Medical Center, Lodi Community Hospital, Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service and Visiting Nurse Service. Past annual campaigns by the Foundation have provided significant support to:
Department of Surgery
Funds from a past Annual Campaign aided in upgrading two operating rooms for improved efficiency and in renovating the Ambulatory Care Center's operating suites to accommodate Obstetrics/Gynecology. Another enhancement to surgery through past Campaigns was the addition of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System. This leading-edge technology greatly improves the surgeon's ability to perform complex procedures through minimally invasive surgery. Through these improvements to the Surgery Department, Akron General is able to offer to our patients reduced length of stay following treatment and a speedy recovery to return them to healthy activity more quickly.
The Breast Health Center
The support of past Annual Campaigns helped bring together state-of-the-art digital breast technology, surgeons skilled in breast issues and a nurse navigator in one, comfortable location – the new Breast Health Center. Medical Education
The Foundation has 16 endowed Visiting Professorships covering 13 clinical areas and provides in excess of $1 million in operating support to clinical research and medical education programs each year.

Digital Mammography at Lodi Community Hospital
Thanks in part to past Annual Campaign supporters; Lodi Community Hospital now offers digital mammography to area residents through the purchase of cutting edge equipment that typically cuts exam time in half and decreases turn-around time.
Comfort Care for Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service Patients
Imagine being gently lowered into a big, deep tub, surrounded by warm, circulating water. Not only is the experience enjoyable for Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) patients, it is also very therapeutic for them. After their soak, the patients are wrapped in warm towels to enhance their experience. Aching muscles are soothed, pain is eased and tension slips away. In fact, Hospice of VNS nurses report that their patients often need less pain medication after a long, warm bath. The whirlpool baths are mentioned time and again in satisfaction surveys as having been the patient’s favorite experience at the Hospice of VNS Care Center.
