Your admitting
doctor is a member of the hospital's medical staff
and will supervise your care at Akron General. Your
doctor will arrange for your tests, medications,
diet and completion of a History and Physical. Your
doctor may call in other specialists for consultation
or assistance.
Doctors at Akron General are independent
contractors, not employees, and have the right to
separately bill for their services. These doctors
include attending and consultant doctors and members
of group practices including, but not limited to,
General Emergency Medicine Specialists, Inc. (GEMS);
Radiology and Imaging Services, Inc.; Anesthesiology
Associates of Akron, Inc.; Akron Pathology Associates,
Inc.; and other hospital-based or affiliated groups.
Additionally, you will receive a bill from Akron
General Medical Center.
As a major teaching hospital,
Akron General participates in the training of resident
doctors (house staff), medical and nursing students
and other health care professionals. Under your
doctor's supervision, members of the house staff
may assist in your care and progress.
Most insurance companies require
pre-certification of surgical procedures. Please
provide the registration clerk with the pre-certification
requirements listed on your insurance care. If there
are no requirements listed on your card, please
contact your employer or health insurer for the
requirements. We will be happy to assist in obtaining
the pre-certification and ask that you obtain doctor
referrals, if necessary. We also ask that you bring
your insurance card(s) with you.
Akron General has patient account
representatives available for financial counseling
Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to answer your
questions about insurance coverage, Medicare and
other financial concerns. If you need assistance,
please call 330-344-6082.
