| Our Graduate Medical Education program is aimed at helping our residents develop the skills necessary for excellence in medical practice. This is partly achieved by providing unique research opportunities. We also look beyond Akron General to the national and international research community and at ways in which to capitalize on and strengthen collaborations. Exploring relationships with sponsoring universities provides value to our residents, but also to our medical, academic, research and business communities. All of our residency programs have a requirement for research or other scholarly activity. At Akron General, residents have opportunities to present their research both locally and nationally. In recent years, our resident research has been accepted for presentation at conferences such as: National American College of Physicians (ACP), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress, World Robotic Gynecologic Congress, Annual Society of Maternal and Fetal Medicine Conference and many others. The Akron General Post Graduate Day Scientific Session, held annually, is an excellent opportunity for residents to showcase their research and present their findings. It is an opportunity for staff, physicians and residents from all areas to also meet, explore potential collaborations and energize research developments and expand their networks. Our next generation of clinician-scientists will undoubtedly make significant contributions to both healthcare and to a growing collection of knowledge. Their research continually improves our ability to deal with disease and create healthier populations. For that reason, they deserve to be recognized on occasions such as this. This event precedes the Graduation Ceremony and the Fun Day. Residents may provide either an oral or poster presentation. Cash prizes are given for the best oral presentation, manuscript and poster.
