Objectives:

  • Understand the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of coronary atherosclerosis in acute myocardial infarction.
  • Understand the prognosis of patients who sustain and survive acute myocardial infarction.
  • Understand the daily care of patients with acute myocardial infarction including diet, activity, pharmacologic therapies and discharge from the hospital.
  • Understand the use of electrocardiography, biochemical markers and myocardial imagin in the role of care of the patient with acute myocardial infarction.
  • Understand the arrhythmias associated with acute myocardial infarction including left ventricular failure and mechanical complications.
  • Understand the indications for pulmonary catheter insertion and intra-arterial line monitoring and interpretation.

Description:

  • Participate in daily rounds, providing care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unite with the attending and/or house staff team.
  • Exposure to diagnostic procedures and therapeutic interventions in the care of patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Night Call/Special Requirements: Night call is optional
