Objectives:
To provide instruction in the subspecialty of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine that deals with the diagnosis and management of a variety of injuries commonly associated with recreational and competitive sports.
To provide students with an opportunity to work directly with an entire sports medicine team consisting of primary care sports medicine specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, athletic trainers and physical therapists.
To understand the importance of appropriate pre-participation readiness and rehabilitation principles involved in Sports Medicine.
To introduce the student to the principles of the role of physical activity in health promotion.
Description:
Attend clinic with teaching faculty.
Assist in surgery on cases deemed appropriate.
Provide end-of-rotation oral report (5 - 10 minutes) on an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine topic.
Typical daily schedule: Four weeks devoted to Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, including office work and surgical care.
Attend orthopaedic didactic lectures.
Attendance at athletic events and other institute-based events is mandatory.
Night Call/Special Requirements: Attendance at evening athletic events (seasonal)
