Akron General Technology Transfer, Commercialization and Innovation Office: Technical Innovation

Akron General Medical Center offers the latest medical technology to patients in many clinical areas. Akron General was the first area hospital to offer the most innovative CT scanning technology, the 64-slice CT. The 64-Slice CT takes ultra fast, startlingly clear, 3-D images of multiple organ systems providing physicians exquisite images from which to diagnose and treat conditions like coronary artery disease, vascular abnormalities, stroke and other complex conditions.

Akron General is a leader in the use of wireless technology providing better access to clinical information. Akron General Medical Center has repeatedly been named as one of the Most Wired Hospitals in the nation by Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine. Akron General’s PACS system provides digital access to diagnostic images throughout the Akron General system, speeding diagnosis for patients waiting for results.

Akron General’s Heart & Vascular Center is equipped with the most advanced digital cardiac catheterization equipment, providing physicians with crisp images and patients with comfortable surroundings as they receive the most advanced clinical treatments, including drug-eluting stents. Akron General vascular surgeons and neuroradiologists are using innovative devices to treat vascular thrombosis and stroke, providing patients with hope for a return to normal activity.
