Akron General’s Paramedic Education Program (AGMC PME) was initiated in 1976 as a commitment to the community in providing prehospital care to citizens within Summit County and adjoining areas. Since then the program has graduated more than 1200 paramedics, most still practicing within the Summit County area.
The Program is accredited by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). AGMC PME was the first hospital-based program in Ohio and 72nd in the Country to obtain CAAHEP National Certification in 1991. Currently the Program is one of 17 in the State of Ohio and one of 459 in the Country that meets the rigid CAAHEP quality standards for excellence in Paramedic Education.
