Akron General offers free cancer screenings
Cancer is unpredictable and unexpected, and all types may develop slowly or rapidly. The good news is that cancer detected in its earliest stages has the best chance for successful treatment – and the best way to detect it early is through screening. Akron General is pleased to offer free screenings for cervical and skin cancer as well as prevention education.
Cervical cancer was once a common cause of cancer death in women, but the Pap test has led to a significant decline in the number of deaths as it detects early signs of this cancer. A free Pap test and pelvic exam will be provided for uninsured and underinsured women on Saturday,May 5, from 8:30 a.m.-noon at the Akron General Women’s Health Clinic, 676 South Broadway Street, Akron. Please call 330-344-AGMC (2462) to make an appointment for this life-saving screening.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer and accounts for almost half of all cancers in the United States. On Saturday, May 19, Akron-area dermatologists, in conjunction with the Cleveland Dermatological Society, will provide free skin cancer screenings from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Akron General Ambulatory Care Center, 400 Wabash Avenue, Akron. Free parking will be provided. Please call 330-344-AGMC (2462) to make an appointment for this life-saving screening.
