Akron General’s Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) Center for Loss and Hope is once again offering Camp Promise, a free camp being held June 11-14, 2012. Due to popular demand, the camp this year is expanding from three days to four. Camp Promise focuses on helping children ages 6-11 process a significant loss, such as that of a parent, grandparent or sibling. Children will learn to manage and understand their grief through creative activities such as craft-making, music and art therapy. Meals and snacks will be provided each day. A staff of professional facilitators will oversee the children as they go through creative stations.
The camp will be held daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Copley. Participants attend Camp Promise at no-cost to their families thanks to the generosity of countless organizations and individuals. This year's Premier Sponsor is Westminster Presbyterian Church. If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring a child's camp experience, please contact the Akron General Foundation, 330-344-6888. To register a child, or for more information, please call Rochelle Sheppard, Spiritual Care and Bereavement Services Coordinator at Hospice of VNS, 330-668-4662 or 800-335-1455, Ext. 4662.
