The Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) Justin T. Rogers Care Center in Copley has opened a new, luxurious spa for use by its hospice patients, thanks to a generous donation by Myers Industries Inc.
A former tub room was converted into an oasis for patients, including a large whirlpool tub with adjustable height and hydro massage jets; towel warmer; and glass-front mini-fridge, all surrounded by ornate tile and travertine floors. Pocket doors give the patient added privacy while soaking in the tub. The therapeutic tubs, which allow for full immersion bathing, will soothe aching muscles and ease pain, while tension slips away. The spa is available for use by Hospice Care Center and home care patients.
"We are very excited about the spa renovation and grateful to Myers Industries for their generosity," said Tracey Nauer, BSN, RN, Director of Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service. "The new spa provides an environment for our patients to relax and keep their minds off their illnesses. The patients' families appreciate knowing that their loved ones can enjoy such a soothing experience."
The Hospice of VNS Justin T. Rogers Care Center, located at 3358 Ridgewood Road, has served more than 20,000 patients and their families since it opened in 1994 as the first freestanding hospice inpatient facility in the area. The Hospice Care Center provides a home-like atmosphere for patients with a limited life expectancy who are unable to remain at home because of distressing and uncontrollable symptoms. The Care Center offers the type of independence and dignity not possible in a traditional institutional setting. Every aspect of the Care Center, from the 26 beautiful – and recently renovated – private rooms to the 16 acres of serene gardens and rolling streams, is designed with the comfort and dignity of the patient in mind.
