More than 1,400 guests turned out for the seventh annual "Winter Breakout" fundraiser for Akron General Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Institute held March 24 at the Akron Civic Theater. The always-popular event featured the soul-moving sounds of jazz fusion group Chieli Minucci and Special EFX, chart-topping saxophonist and composer Euge Groove, R&B and urban jazz vocalist Phil Perry, and internationally known guitarist Jeff Golub, who hails from Copley, Ohio.
The event, sponsored by the Center for Neuro and Spine, also honored Dr. Michael Delahanty of Peninsula for his lifelong work and service as he retires from Edwin Shaw this month. He has served with compassion and dedication as Chairman of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Akron General and as Medical Director of Edwin Shaw for more than 20 years.
Presented by the Akron General Foundation, this year's Winter Breakout raised more than $64,000, which will be used to help Edwin Shaw patients recover from life-altering traumatic injuries or illnesses, including stroke and traumatic brain injury.
