Another Great Day in Green
Akron General to hold community event July 21

Akron General Health System invites the community to help celebrate the completion of its newest Health & Wellness Center during an Open House, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 21, at 1940 Town Park Blvd., Green.

The 100,000-square foot Health & Wellness Center complements the Health System’s other very successful centers in Stow and Montrose. More than 1,300 people have already signed up as charter members of the highly acclaimed LifeStyles exercise and membership program. For a limited time, LifeStyles is offering potential members a 45 percent discount off the enrollment fee. Anyone interested may call 330-896-5000 or visit the membership office at the Green location. LifeStyles-Green officially opens for business at 5:30 a.m., July 9.

During the Open House on the 21st, visitors will have a chance to learn more about LifeStyles, as well as about Akron General’s new Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy and Sports Performance programs in Green. The four pools will be open for swimming and visitors can work out for free on the state-of-the-art exercise equipment or climb the imposing rock wall. Free health screenings will be offered and guests will have chances to win prizes, including a 26-inch mountain bike and helmet. Green’s own Legends Sports Pub & Grill will provide refreshments. WONE 97.5 radio personality Christi Nichols will be on hand to greet visitors.

The opening of the Health & Wellness Center completes another phase for Akron General’s Green campus. In March, the 24-hour Emergency Department opened, along with a full complement of radiology and lab services. Since that opening less than four months ago, the Green community and surrounding areas have embraced the Akron General medical services. The Emergency Department averages more than 40 patients a day and patient volume overall has exceeded every projection. A medical office building and critical care helipad are also planned for the Green site. When the Green project is completed with the addition of the three-story medical office building, Akron General will employ nearly 250 people on the entire campus. In addition, a conference center that the public can utilize for community-based meetings will seat nearly 200 people.
