More than 350 guests sampled wines from around the world and delicious food from some of the area’s best restaurants at the Akron General Foundation’s 12th annual Grape Escape held April 26 at Portage Country Club. The title sponsors for the event were Akron Plastic Surgeons and the Center for Neuro and Spine. Dr. & Mrs. Doug Lefton, of Copley, won a $3,000 vacation package for two to Napa Valley and Christina Cyrus, of Wadsworth, won the second place prize of a new Apple iPad.
The event raised more than $68,000 for the Akron General McDowell Cancer Center. Proceeds will be directed to the development of a new Art Therapy Program, which has been shown to decrease symptoms in cancer patients, as well as reduce stress. Over the past 12 years, Grape Escape has raised more than $693,000 for the McDowell Cancer Center.
