Rehab care is often very specialized. That's why it's important to know if you qualify for rehab care and if your health plan covers it. Accepted Health Plans
Akron General Edwin Shaw Rehab works with you every step of the way to ensure that you receive the kind of care you need – exactly where you need it, whether you're recovering from an injury or illness, surgery or chemical dependency.
So, how will you know if you qualify for rehab care? Talk with your doctor about your plan of care and your future. Be sure to ask him or her to provide you with a referral, and lastly, check with your health insurance provider to see if rehab care is covered for your diagnosis and with or without your doctor's referral.
Inpatients will stay on either a licensed inpatient rehabilitation unit or on a skilled care unit. You probably want to know what the difference between the two and if that will affect your care.
Inpatient Rehabilitation
Therapy on the rehabilitation unit is scheduled six days each week and averages 15 hours or more per week. The average length of stay on a rehabilitation unit is 20 days or less. If placed on a rehabilitation unit, participation in therapy sessions is a priority. Continuous improvement and involvement must be demonstrated to remain appropriate for this level of care. Edwin Shaw Rehab follows regulatory guidelines and communicates with your insurer to obtain the best possible coverage for your care.
Skilled Rehabilitation
Therapy on the Healthaven Pavilion skilled units generally starts at less than one hour per day, three to five days a week, and is increased as medically tolerated. If you cannot tolerate this level initially, you are slowly increased toward this level. The average stay on the Healthaven Pavilion skilled units is 30 days or less.
How to Choose a Rehabilitation Facility
The extent and speed of a patient's recovery, the comfort of the patient during rehabilitation, and the extent of family involvement depend on the facility that is selected.
