Since its inception, the Foundation has raised in excess of $93 Million. Last year alone, the Foundation provided over $3.4 million to Akron General for capital purchases, new equipment, facility improvements, medical education and clinical research.
2008 Annual Appeal - Department of Surgery Funds from the 2008 Annual Appeal aided in upgrading two operating rooms for improved efficiency, and in renovating the Ambulatory Care Center's operating suites to accommodate Obstetrics/Gynecology.
Another enhancement to surgery through the Appeal was the addition of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System . This leading-edge technology greatly improves the surgeon's ability to perform complex procedures through minimally invasive surgery.
Through these improvements to the Surgery Department, Akron General is able to offer to our patients reduced length of stay following treatment and a speedy recovery to return them to healthy activity more quickly.
2007 Annual Appeal - Research The orthopaedic or musculoskeletal studies of John Elias, PhD, who joined the staff of the Calhoun Research Lab in 2008, will be furthered by gifts from the 2007 Annual Appeal supporters. Akron General continues to be a leader in technology transfer innovation spearheaded by clinical research taking place daily in the Calhoun Research Lab.
2005 & 2006 Annual Appeal - Breast Health Because a faster diagnosis can sometimes mean improved treatment results for breast cancer patients, the 2005 and 2006 Akron General Annual Appeals focused creation of a new Breast Health Center. The support of these campiagns was used to bring together to state-of-the-art digital breast technology, surgeons skilled in breast issues and a nurse navigator in one, comfortable location. Women or men who have a suspicious lump can schedule an appointment and generally receive a diagnosis within 12 business days. The national average of time to diagnosis from abnormal mammogram is 77 days. Watch this video to learn more about how your support has impacted Breast Health Center patients lives.

The largest projects undertaken to-date are the McDowell Cancer Center, The Health Resource Libraries and the McDowell Radiation Oncology Unit. In 2006, the Foundation completed a $10 million capital campaign for the new Heart & Vascular Center.
The Foundation has 16 endowed Visiting Professorships covering 13 clinical areas and provides in excess of $1 million in operating support to clinical research and medical education programs each year.
