Akron General's McDowell Cancer Center provides patients with access to care quickly. We also offer the newest therapies, diagnostics and surgical techniques to help minimize side effects and improve outcomes. A research site with national clinical trials, we offer treatment options that may help extend and improve lives. The McDowell Cancer Center is a member of six National Cancer Institute cooperative groups including: the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG), Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG). We also participate in pharmaceutical and in-house investigator-initiated studies. In 2007, we had 170 registrations to clinical trials. This accrual rate is 15 percent of our analytic cases for the year (compared to national averages of 2-3 percent).
