Akron General's
Critical Care Center is one of the premier stroke
and sepsis research sites in the United States and
Europe. Our staff also performs complex investigational
research involving pneumonia, hyperbaric medicine
and prevention of complications of illness such
as pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.
The development and implementation
of a multidisciplinary, planned approach to the
intervention and management of stroke has lead to
many investigative studies aimed at preventing and
diminishing the devastating effects of America's
number three killer and number one cause of disability
in adults.
The Critical Care Center participates
in a variety of other studies aimed at preventing
the complication of complex illness such as pulmonary
emboli, deep vein thrombosis and thrombophlebitis.
Sepsis studies also assist in investigating methods
to diminish the devastation associated with infectious
disease. Device studies that involve the monitoring
or oxygenation of Critical Care Center patients
are yet another integral component of Critical Care
Center research efforts.
