Because of our reputation for research and outstanding care for stroke patients, Akron General is a model for hospitals in Ohio and across the nation. When a stroke occurs, patients are cared for by a team that includes the emergency medicine doctors, critical care doctors, neurologists, interventional radiologists, neurosurgeons and physical medicine rehabilitation specialists. Our Emergency Department physicians are educated in recognizing the early onset of stroke. By knowing the symptoms and getting to the hospital as quickly as possible, patients have a better chance for more effective treatment and recovery.
