Thank you for your interest in our Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program at Akron General Medical Center (AGMC). We are one of two university-affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Programs in the area. Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM) offers our residents research facilities, technical support, and teaching opportunities.
We offer seven PG-1 positions for Emergency Medicine through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), and is a three-year residency program. The program is based on the guidelines outlined by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and was established in 1973. The Emergency Department is a critical part of Akron General's verification by the American College of Surgeons as a Level-I Trauma Center. This recognizes us as the highest level regional resource for comprehensive care for seriously ill and injured patients. We are a verified Level-I Trauma Center and Akron's first Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center, Akron General also serves as the Northeast Ohio base hospital for MedFlight, an air ambulance helicopter transport service.
While we offer lots of accreditations, our strongest asset is our teaching faculty. Nick Jouriles, MD, professor of Emergency Medicine will be installed as ACEPs President this October serving a one-year term. Several of our faculty are recognized on state and national levels for teaching, publishing and service to the Emergency Medicine specialty.
Once again, thank you for your interest in our program. For more information, contact Medical Education at the toll-free number below. Free housing is available.
