"In my search for an emergency medicine residency I interviewed at a wide range of programs across the country. What initially struck me about my interview at Akron General was the sense of camaraderie amongst the residents and faculty as well as the overall happiness of the residents. I also liked the fact that the program, being the first community Emergency Medicine residency, was well established, had a long standing reputation for producing excellent physicians and had graduates that practiced throughout the U.S. These aspects of the program coupled with Akron General’s high volume and acuity level placed it at the top of my list. Now that I am in my second year of residency, I could not be happier with my choice. The teaching and pathology is top notch and our attendings care about us as residents as well as our learning experience. Akron is a very livable city with lots of outdoor activities and a low cost of living. All of these factors as well as the support we receive from the hospital makes our program one where you can concentrate on getting the most out of residency, feel supported in any academic interest you may have and feel confident that you will emerge ready to practice in any environment you choose."
