We offer five PGY-1 positions for this three-year program, which is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We offer a faculty with diverse areas of interest, an innovative behavior science curriculum and opportunities to sharpen teaching skills with instruction from our patient education specialist. We also offer an innovative practice management curriculum and a dedicated pharmacotherapy specialist for rational drug therapy.

As a major affiliate of the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM), our Family Medicine residency provides first-year experience on inpatient rotations of medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, surgery and emergency medicine, along with first-year pediatric experience at Akron Children's Hospital. The first year includes providing primary care to a panel of patients at Akron General's Center for Family Medicine.

The second year includes required rotations with the remaining times in subspecialties and electives. We also include a "hands-on" two-week Practice Management curriculum in the second year.

The third year provides experience in office and patient management at Akron General and Akron Children's Hospital. Third-year office practice includes management of 150-200 families.

Scheduled weekly are 1/2 day didactic conferences encompassing all medical topics, behavioral science, pharmacology, evidence-based medicine, research and practice management for all residents.
