Preliminary Internal Medicine Residency Program

Akron General sponsors four positions for a one-year residency in Preliminary Medicine. This residency is for students whose career specialty requires one year of fundamental clinical experience, or for students who desire a broad-based clinical education prior to selecting a complete residency program.

Students spend eight months in the Department of Medicine on core rotations followed by four months of electives. Residents who decide to continue in Internal Medicine can then advance to a second-year position.
