Transitional Year Residency Program

Akron General Medical Center also sponsors four positions for a one-year Transitional Year program for a broad-based clinical education prior to selecting a residency, or for students whose residency requires a prerequisite. The Department of Medicine and the Department of Emergency Medicine serve as co-sponsors. Residents spend six months on disciplines offering fundamental clinical skills, four months of electives, as well as rotations in Emergency Medicine and Ambulatory Medicine.

Akron General Medical Center has a great community-based medical education program where the attending physicians take a real interest in teaching residents. Everyone is approachable and more than willing to take time out of their schedules to help out. The Transitional Year Program offers great flexibility in scheduling options where you can create a year that meets your individual needs.
