Akron General Medical Center also sponsors four positions for a one-year Transitional Year program for a broad-based clinical education prior to selecting a residency, or for students whose residency requires a prerequisite. The Department of Medicine and the Department of Emergency Medicine serve as co-sponsors. Residents spend six months on disciplines offering fundamental clinical skills, four months of electives, as well as rotations in Emergency Medicine and Ambulatory Medicine.
