"As a transitional year resident going into radiology, I have been extremely happy with the welcoming, friendly people and the training opportunities available at Akron General Medical Center. First, I have the freedom to choose many electives that will help prepare me for my future training. For example, I just finished my outpatient orthopaedics rotation. Because all of the attending physicians I worked with knew I was going into radiology, they took the time to point out all relevant findings in the imaging studies that came through their offices. Next, transitional year residents also have the opportunity to do a research elective. As it is often difficult to find time for research during an intern year, I truly appreciate having time to develop my research skills and to work on a project for an entire month."
Lastly and most importantly, I have been welcomed with open arms by everyone I have worked with. During my medicine rotations, the attending physicians and residents have treated me like one of their own and have taken significant time to help teach me everything I need to know to be a successful intern. Even though I will only be in Akron for a year, I'm sure I will keep in touch with many friends here long after I leave." — Justin Ionita, MD Transitional Year
