"Akron General is separated from other programs by the emphasis that it places on the development of a well-rounded resident. The program offers not only a superior academic curriculum but also takes value in creating a "whole person" physician equipped with the tools necessary to run a successful practice."
I was attracted to the program because of the obvious bond between attending physicians and residents. Traditionally, attending physicians teach medicine. At Akron General, attending physicians teach much more than the practice of medicine; they make themselves readily available to train a physician well versed in medical, interpersonal and practical life skills. Additionally, as a surgical resident interviewee my concern for choosing a program was placed on operative and patient management experience. I found that the physicians at Akron General challenge residents on a daily basis to make responsible clinical, educated decisions."
Life outside of the hospital in Akron has proven to be equally well rounded and enjoyable. Akron is a small city with a tight community feel, yet offers access to several major metropolitans. The city offers culture rich in art, sports, fine dining, recreation and nightlife and what Akron lacks, can be experienced just thirty minutes away in Cleveland. My family and I have settled easily into this friendly, Northeastern Ohio community and would most certainly recommend it as a happy place to call home to all future residents."

“The hospital is full of wonderful staff. It is a very friendly place to work. The size of the hospital allows a family environment, yet it is large enough to attract some very interesting cases.
The attendings are extremely knowledgeable and willing to help. With fellowship trained attendings in all the major areas, we get a very diverse experience. The residents in this program are another highlight. We work together very well as a team, and enjoy spending time together outside the hospital as well. Lastly, the operative experience is superb. From the first day of general surgery, until the last day of urology, we are busy in the OR. Graduates of this program feel very comfortable either going into practice, or pursueing the fellowship of their choosing."
The Akron area is definately a great place to live. From raising a family to the nightlife, there is always something to do around town. Housing is affordable and there are tons of great places to live with easy access to the hospital. Close to Cleveland, Columbus and Pittsburg, big city culture is only a short car ride away."

“Everyone I met on my interview day with the Akron Urology Residency Training Program was genuinely happy to be there. I knew it was a great work environment where I would be able to further myself in becoming an educated, caring and competent physician. As I approach my senior year I am confident that I am well equipped with knowledge and skill to practice Urology.
I have enjoyed living in Akron; it is a wonderful community to raise a family. There are a wide variety of attractions to the area and that is why I am not surprised that many residents stay here after residency to a join a practice.”
