Q. When and where do I report on the first day of my rotation?
A. To the Department of Medical Education, next to the Conference Center on Wabash Avenue at 8:00 a.m. (Unless specifically instructed otherwise). After a brief meeting, a resident or program coordinator will take you to the department where you will receive the curriculum and begin your rotation.
Q. Do I need special attire?
A. Business casual attire with your white coat and school I.D.
Q. Does Akron General Medical Center accept applications for electives from students attending foreign medical schools?
A. No, only students from LCME and AOA accredited medical schools are approved to participate in Senior Electives. However, we welcome applications from International Medical Graduates for residency training.
Q. Will you notify me on the status of my application for elective rotation?
A. Yes, as soon as we receive the approval/denial from the preceptor of the rotation for which you are applying, an e-mail confirmation letter will be sent to you.
Q. Once I am approved for the student elective rotation, what paperwork does the Department of Medical Education need?
A. Several items are needed:
Proof of malpractice insurance
Proof of immunization
Letter of good standing from your Medical School
A copy of your driver's license
When you arrive at Medical Education, on the first day of your rotation you will be asked to sign Confidentiality Acknowledgement form to be kept in your file.
Q. Is housing provided?
A. Yes, housing is provided for out of town students. Students stay at the Akron City Centre Hotel, located in Downtown Akron a few blocks from the hospital. Students may share a room especially from July through January.
