Clinical Manager - Psychiatry - Off Shift - Full Time / Flex Hours
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director, Nursing/Patient Services, the Clinical Manager is a clinically competent nurse manager who assists the Director in managing the clinical and operational aspects of a patient care unit or units. The Clinical Manager assists the Director in planning, coordinating, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
Job Duties:
Manages the work activities of the assigned Department(s) to include the RNs, LPNs, Sr. Techs, Nurse Techs, Nursing Assistants and Unit Clerks. Participates in interviewing, hiring, orienting and training staff. Evaluates performance and provides feedback. Makes personnel action recommendations (e.g. promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
Assists the facilitation and coordination of staffing and scheduling for the provision of safe and effective patient care.
Serves as patient/family advocate to facilitate patient care, communication and resolution of problems and ethical dilemmas.
Ensures accurate, effective and pertinent communication for all staff and shifts as well as through the use of the chain of command.
Promotes and facilitates patient focused care utilizing a delivery system emphasizing the nurse patient relationship & case management principles.
Collaborates with nursing and medical staffs to ensure coordination of medical and nursing aspects of patient care.
Assists in monitoring unit environment to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
Serves as a resource for specialty clinical practice to nursing staff.
Provides effective and timely feedback to staff and Director regarding staff compliance to standards of practice.
Collaborates with nursing staff in the application of standards of care, policies and procedures and the nursing process.
Assists in evaluating quality of patient care and in monitoring standards of practice of nursing staff. Collaborates with Director to formulated and revise standards of care for specific unit patient populations.
Assists in establishing, monitoring and identifying effective unit-based QI program. Assists Director in providing feedback to nursing staff regarding QI activities and departmental and organizational activities and goals.
Provides direct care to patients, as needed, to maintain clinical skills, to assess particular age specific/population patient care needs, or for the purpose of instruction.
Demonstrates satisfactory performance for established and new routines, procedures, skills and equipment.
Assists Director with promoting positive employee relations. Administers labor contracts and hospital policies consistently. Demonstrates leadership style that encourages staff accountability.
Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
Qualifications: Age Specific Criteria:
Newborn- Consistently demonstrates compliance with infant security policy at each infant interaction.
Newborn- Educates parents and grandparents when appropriate in understandable terms about care, medications, treatments and procedures and provides opportunity for return demonstration.
Newborn- Demonstrates ability to provide infant nutrition through mother's breast or bottle feeding.
Newborn- Completes physical assessment of newborn including gestational age and weight and assists with formulation of plan of care based on assessment.
Adolescent- Plans individualized care for adolescent based on assessment of physical, psychological and age-specific needs.
Adolescent- Assures plan and implementation of care addresses adolescent needs for privacy and involvement in decision making.
Adolescent- Educates adolescent and parents as appropriate, regarding therapy, procedures and treatment using understandable terminology.
Geriatric- Assesses and plans care appropriately for age-related changes in visual acuity, strength, hearing, memory and sensation.
Geriatric- Demonstrates knowledge of potential variation in effect of medications in geriatric patient and plans care accordingly.
Geriatric- Provides education about therapy and treatment in understandable terms, providing patient opportunity and adequate time, as desired, to involve family in decision- making.
Minimum Qualifications:
BSN
Current license in the State of Ohio.
Two years relevant clinical experience.
Required certifications depending on area of specialty (e.g. BLS ACLS and PALS).
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with members of the health care team.
Proficient in the use of administrative and clinical software applications.
