RN Electrophysiology Specialist

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director, Heart Catheterization Laboratory, the Electrophysiology Specialist is responsible for coordinating, providing and/or assisting with tests and procedures done to aid with the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Qualifications: Job Duties: Coordinates patient transfers with Heart Center Coordinator, referring physicians and other institutions, for Cath Lab procedures. Coordinates and structures schedules between CCU, Cardiology units and Surgical Services. Evaluates staffing requirements based upon volume and complexity of procedures. Provides patient care during procedures such as electrophysiology studies, RF ablations, permanent pacemaker implants, ICD implants, and cardiac catheterization procedures. Records and monitors pressures and other vital signs during procedures. Monitors patients in holding area after procedures until stabilized. Performs interpretations of patient clinical information and records physiological data. Prepares rooms and equipment for procedures to be done. Instructs patients, families and employees about laboratory procedures. Maintains and updates patient records regularly. Supervises departmental work related to patient care. Takes precautions to ensure patient and employee safety. Works with Cardiac Function Department on related procedures. Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains required CPR (ACLS). Age Specific Criteria: Adolescent: Explains procedures and testing to adolescent and family in understandable terms. Geriatric: Provides education about therapy in understandable terms. Geriatric: Assesses comfort when placing patient in various positions for treatment/procedure. Geriatric: Addresses patient using appropriate title and last name unless directed otherwise. Minimum Qualifications: Registered Nurse with license to practice in the State of Ohio. Three years nursing experience in critical care/cardiology required. Experience with electrophysiology procedures/ studies preferred. Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred. Demonstrated expertise in arrhythmia interpretations. Excellent communication skills required. Ability to coordinate activities between diverse groups. Maintains current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Airway management/competency by Anesthesia Department.
