The American Heart Association recently recognized Akron General as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite, placing the health system among an elite group of awardees. Being a Gold level award recipient shows that Akron General not only recognizes the importance of a healthy workplace for employees but also has taken important steps to create a culture of wellness by providing support to employees.
Fit-Friendly companies reach Gold level status by implementing various activities and programs to encourage physical activity, nutrition and culture enhancements such as on-site walking routes, healthy food choices in cafeterias and vending machines, annual employee health risk assessments and online tracking tools. More than 2,400 companies were recognized nationally as Fit-Friendly companies.
