Akron General Visiting Nurse Service Equipment & Supplies (VNSES) is hosting a sleep therapy open house on March 14 from 2 – 5 p.m. at 160 Opportunity Parkway, Akron. The open house is designed to provide support and education to people who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. The most noticeable sign of obstructive sleep apnea is snoring, but other symptoms may include increased excessive daytime sleepiness, memory loss, hypertension and depression. An estimated 18 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea, according to the American Association for Respiratory Care.
Licensed Respiratory Therapists will give presentations at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. about the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, risk factors, types of sleep apnea, diagnosis and treatment. They will also discuss CPAP and BIPAP machines and delivery devices, such as mask and nasal pillows. Licensed respiratory therapists will also offer personalized CPAP and BIPAP mask fittings and pressure checks. Insurance verification specialists will be available to discuss insurance coverage for sleep therapy products and replacement parts, and to answer other questions. Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to VNSES’ Respiratory Department at 330-344-8803.
