Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) will offer the eighth annual Camp Promise August 5-8 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily on the grounds of the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Copley. Camp Promise focuses on helping children ages 6-11 who have experienced a significant loss, such as that of a parent, grandparent or sibling. Children will learn to manage and understand their grief through creative activities such as journaling, sand tray therapy, music, drama and art therapy. Meals and snacks will be provided each day. A staff of professional facilitators will oversee the children as they go through creative stations. To register a child, or for more information, please call 330-668-4662.
A free series on “Men Facing Grief” will be held August 5, 12 and 19 from 5–6:30 p.m. at the Hospice of VNS Care Center. Men in general seem to find it more difficult than women to recognize and deal with grief. Oftentimes, men even have a hard time acknowledging their need for support when they have experienced a death of a loved one. This group, for men only, seeks to provide ideas for helping men heal from a loss.
“The Role of Humor in Grief Recovery” will be held on August 14 from 2–3:30 p.m. at the Hospice of VNS Care Center. Along the grief journey it is important for us to cope with our grief with the goal of restoring some sense of joy and well-being to our lives. Using your sense of humor is a principal element in the healing process. Discover ways to add justifiable humor to your grief journey in this class.
The sessions are open to the community at no charge. Enrollment is limited, so please call to reserve a place. To register, or for more information on this and other Hospice of VNS bereavement support programs or individual grief counseling, please call 330-668-4662.
