Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) is offering a free presentation and workshop on “Advance Care Planning: Let Your Wishes Be Known” on October 29 from 5 – 6 p.m. at the Akron General Health & Wellness Center – West, 4125 Medina Rd., Montrose. A panel of experts will discuss the practical, medical, legal and spiritual aspects of having advance directives. The panel includes Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer, Summit County Court of Common Pleas Probate Division; Dr. David Peter, Hospice physician and Sr. Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for Akron General; Joe Koehler, elder law attorney; Rev. Sandra Selby, Furnace Street Mission; and Ann Haas, social worker, Akron General Medical Center.
All adults – regardless of age or current health – can benefit from completing advance directives, documents that tell your health care provider what kind of health care you would like in the event that you are unable to make medical decisions for yourself. The two most commonly used advance directives are the living will and durable power of attorney for health care.
Akron General social workers will be present after the session to answer questions and assist in filling out the living will and durable power of attorney for health care paperwork. This community program is free and refreshments will be served. Enrollment is limited, so please call to reserve a place. To register, please call 330-344-1800 by October 18.
