Akron General CEO named as a Health System Leader to Know
Becker’s lists Dr. Stover among those with a dedication to improving health care

Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading national health care and hospital publication has listed Akron General Health System President and CEO Thomas L. “Tim” Stover, MD, MBA, among its 2013 class of the top 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know across America.

Becker's Hospital Review features up-to-date business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems. Content is geared toward high-level hospital leaders. Becker’s provides valuable content, including hospital and health system news, best practices and legal guidance specifically for these decision-makers.

In compiling its list of 300 Healthcare and Hospital Leaders to Know, Becker’s considered executives who have shown “admirable dedication to health care delivery at local, regional and national levels.” According to Becker’s, “each has demonstrated great promise and commitment to improving health care in America through work done with their respective organizations or broader public health initiatives.”

Dr. Stover became president and CEO of the Akron General Health System in February 2012. He served previously as president of Akron General’s Outpatient Services. He joined the Health System in 1993. Recently, The Foundation for Healthy Communities of the Ohio Hospital Association recognized Dr. Stover as the 2013 Wellness Warrior, a designation that recognizes a hospital or health system executive who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to wellness promotion in Ohio. Dr. Stover was also instrumental in the recent formation of the Akron General – Kent State University Health and Wellness Research Collaborative, which seeks to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles by integrating public health, basic science, and clinical and behavioral research and by developing and promoting evidence-based wellness practices. He was also the driving force behind Akron General’s innovative and highly successful Health & Wellness Centers.

Among the other Northeast Ohio health system executives included on this impressive list are Delos “Toby” Cosgrove, MD, President and CEO of Cleveland Clinic; Tom Zenty, III, CEO of University Hospitals; and Akram Boutros, MD, President and CEO of the MetroHealth System.
