More than 1,000 guests turned out for “An Evening of Jazz with BWB” (Norman Brown, Kirk Whalum and Rick Braun), with special guest Lalah Hathaway, held October 5 at the Akron Civic Theater, 182 South Main Street, Akron. Presented by the Akron General Foundation, with support from PNC Bank, this year's concert raised approximately $45,000 for the Akron General Heart and Vascular Center. The fundraiser also honored George I. Litman, MD, Chief Emeritus of Cardiology, for his more than 40 years of service to Akron General.
Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service’s (VNS) “Joyful Tastes of Life” food, wine and craft beer tasting fundraiser was held on October 10 at St. George’s Family Center, 3204 Ridgewood Road, Akron. More than 300 guests filed through and raised approximately $50,000 for end-of-life patient care and supportive services at Hospice of VNS. Sue Wilson, WQMX Program Director/Morning Show Co-Host, and Tim Daugherty, WONE Program Director, were emcees for the evening. Saxophonist and Hospice volunteer Patrick Munford provided live music and Hospice employee Dorothea Clarke joined him on stage for a few songs. A large silent auction and raffle capped off the evening. Patti Rabb won the third place raffle prize of a 32-inch HDTV, Sherry Foos won the $500 second prize, and Jodi Wagner won the $1,500 Greenbrier Resort vacation package. The title sponsor of “Joyful Tastes of Life” was John J. Petrus, MD.
