Hospice of VNS offers free bereavement classes in March
Free programs support the bereaved in our community

Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) is offering a free three-week series on “Men Facing Grief” March 10, 17 and 24 from 5–7:30 p.m. at the Hospice of VNS Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Copley. Men in general seem to find it more difficult than women to recognize and deal with grief. Oftentimes, men even have a hard time acknowledging their need for support when they have experienced a death of a loved one. This group, for men only, seeks to provide ideas for helping men heal from a loss.

“How Rituals Help the Grieving” will be offered on March 12 from 2–3:30 p.m. at the Hospice of VNS Care Center. Rituals that held meaning in life can be used for continued support and encouragement through the journey of grief. The session gives grievers a chance to share their own rituals as well as discover new ones.

A free six-week “Healing Journey Support Group” will begin on March 13 from 2–4 p.m. or 6–8 p.m. at the Hospice of VNS Care Center. The series will focus on rebuilding life after the death of a loved one and incorporating hope. Group members will help normalize the grief experience through sharing with others facing similar challenges. The group will meet every Thursday for six weeks; choose to attend either the afternoon or evening group.

All classes are open to the community at no charge. Enrollment is limited, so please call to reserve a place. To register, or for more information on any group, or on other Hospice of VNS bereavement support programs or individual grief counseling, please call 330-668-4662 or 800-335-1455, Ext. 4662.
